The Incarnation Band program involves students in 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. All band classes meet during the school day. The 5th grade meets once per week. The 6th grade and the Junior High meet twice per week. Instruments that students may learn include: flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, oboe, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion.
The bands perform two concerts, one in the winter and one in the spring. There are other performances for certain grade levels during the Christmas Festival and Open House. The Junior High students are eligible to participate in the OMEA solo and ensemble adjudicated events in the spring and select students may audition for the OMEA District 12 Honor Band. Additional performance opportunities are available to 7th and 8th grade students who are interested in performing with the Alter High School Band and the Fenwick High School Band.
4th grade students are invited to try various instruments in the spring in order to decide if they will participate in band in 5th grade. Information regarding a beginning band parent meeting and registration for instrument fitting sessions will be available in March and April.
Incarnation School has recently added Orchestra to our curriculum. We offer regular classroom instruction in violin, viola, cello, and string bass to 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students, who attend class twice per week during the school day. The Orchestra program will expand to include 7th grade students in Fall 2012 and 8th grade students in Fall 2013.
The Incarnation Orchestra holds two main concert performances each year in the Winter and Spring. Additional performance opportunities may arise during the school year, such as the Incarnation PTO’s Christmas Festival in December and the school Open House in March. The end-of-the-year performance for 2012 will be a combined concert with the Incarnation Band on May 16, 2012.
In addition, 3rd grade students are invited to attend an Orchestra Intensive during the spring. Students in the Intensive program meet every day for three weeks and perform in a concert at the end of the program, at which point the families can decide whether or not to join the regular Orchestra program in 4th grade.
