Our Fourth grade program continues to build independence both academically and spiritually. Students begin to switch classrooms as a class for certain subjects. They also continue to grow their knowledge of the faith and their relationship with Jesus.
Our Curriculum
Religion
Our Religion curriculum focuses on the Rosary, the Beatitudes and the Commandments. The major units concentrate on God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the Church, and Social Justice. Students learn to connect these concepts to everyday scenarios.
English/Language Arts
Our English/Language Arts curriculum is derived from the Benchmark Advanced program. This program is aligned with Science of Reading research and includes reading, writing, grammar, and phonics instruction. It aims to develop literacy skills and knowledge through a balance of literary and informational texts, with a focus on building vocabulary and knowledge across various subjects. It integrates writing, speaking, and listening, and emphasizes critical thinking through guided instruction and knowledge-building activities.
MATH
Our Math curriculum introduces students to adding and subtracting larger numbers, working with fractions, measurement, graphing, and how to multiply and divide. Our teachers utilize manipulatives and other multi-modal approaches to make complex topics easier to understand.
SCIENCE
Our Science curriculum focuses on the engineering design process, plant and animal structure and function, energy and communication, and how landforms are created. The students participate in hands-on activities and labs to investigate, to make hypotheses, to test ideas, and to draw conclusions. In Health, fourth graders learn about how they need to make informed decisions about health. The topics include needs and feelings, families, health and fitness, diseases, staying safe, medicines, and drugs and health.
Social Studies
Our Social Studies curriculum revolves around the study of the regions of the United States and Ohio history. Students focus on geography, climate, and natural resources.
