Orchestra
|
Orchestra is offered to students in grades 5–8 and introduces students to instrumental music through violin, viola, cello, or double bass. Students learn fundamental skills such as proper posture, bowing, finger placement, tone production, music reading, and ensemble performance. Instruction is tailored to students’ experience levels to support steady musical growth.
Throughout the year, students rehearse and perform together, building teamwork, responsibility, and confidence. The orchestra presents several performances each year, including concerts during the school day and evening concerts for families and the community. Seventh- and eighth-grade students have the opportunity to participate in adjudicated events sponsored by the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA). Early in the second semester, students may participate in the OMEA Solo and Ensemble Contest. In the spring, the full orchestra performs at the OMEA Large Group Contest, where students receive feedback on their performance and musicianship. |
