Seventh Grade

Our Seventh grade program continues to build independence in all our students and instill a sense of purpose rooted in the Gospel values. Our Junior High program equips students will the skills needed to succeed in high school.

Curriculum

Religion
Our Religion curriculum encourages students to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, while they evaluate and grow in their faith through service, retreats, weekly Mass participation, and leadership opportunities. Students are introduced to a wide variety of prayers in the classroom and engage in discussions centered on the life of Christ and his universal call to evangelization.
Reading
Our Reading Curriculum covers short stories, poetry, and novels of all genres by both classical and current authors.  Students will recognize, demonstrate, analyze, and discuss language, character traits, plot and other literary devices.  As students examine the structure of fiction and nonfiction, they will continue to interpret and develop their vocabulary through context clues, demonstrate an understanding through the use of supporting evidence, and advance their analytical thinking.  Class discussions, small group responses, personal reflection and self-monitoring strategies will be used to help with reading comprehension, critiquing, and fluency.
Language Arts
Our Language Arts covers active reading, critical thinking, and the writing process with attention to the grammatical concepts that affect clarity and style. Topics covered within Language Arts include critical thinking strategies, active reading strategies, and well-developed paragraph construction. This course emphasizes the development of specific writing types: arguments, informative/explanatory texts, and narratives in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. Students demonstrate increasing sophistication in all aspects of language use. A variety of literature and informational texts serve as models to improve writing skills.
