Our Technology Program
Our Technology program at Incarnation School prepares students for a technologically changing world in the 21st century. Through active, hands-on learning students will acquire knowledge and skills that enable them to gather, integrate, analyze and apply information and ideas across all curriculums. In keeping with the mission of Catholic schools to promote values for a lifetime, the school will monitor, instruct about, and guard against inappropriate, unethical, and illegal use of technology by the student or adult user.
preschool 4's-First Grade
Students are developing basic computer skills, exploring information through multimedia games, practicing computer coding, and being introduced to basic typing skills. Students have the opportunity to reinforce classroom skills and develop their understanding of technology with robots, 3D printing pens, screen-free activities, and many others.
Second-Fourth Grade
Students are exploring the safe use of and surfing on the internet with direction. They are also using Word, PowerPoint, and Excel to enhance their learning with these innovative Office apps. Classroom skills are reinforced through robots, 3D printing pens, 3D scanners, 3D printers, screen free activities, laptops, iPads, and many others. Students practice proper typing through a program called Typing Agent. Students work at their appropriate level to advance through a series of 31 levels that teach and promote correct typing. Students compete in a March Madness typing tournament to encourage accurate and fast typing skills.
Fifth-Sixth Grade
Students review internet safety and explore their digital footprint on the internet. They are also using Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and SWAY to enhance their classroom learning. Students use 3D scanners, 3D printers, screen free activities, laptops, iPads, and many other tools to promote learning in the 21st century. Students practice proper typing through a program called Typing Agent. Students work at their appropriate level to advance through a series of 31 levels that teach and promote correct typing. These levels are graded and students typing is checked for correct fingering. Students compete in a March Madness typing tournament to encourage accurate and fast typing skills. Students continue coding with bock-based programs and are introduced to text-coding with Python and JavaScript.
Seventh-Eighth Grade
Students review internet safety and explore their digital footprint on the internet (specifically regarding social media). They will review advanced skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Additional presentation tools such as Prezi and SWAY will be practiced. After graduating from Incarnation School, our students have a solid background in Microsoft Office tools that will serve them well at the next level. Students that choose to take the 8th grade elective “computer coding” will use text-based coding with Python, JavaScript, and SWIFT to code drones, simple games, and puzzles.
Our STEM Program
At Incarnation STEM is integration into every grade level. Our goal is to equip students with the skills needed to succeed in the 21st century. Throughout their time here students engage in hands-on learning to gain a fundamental understanding of coding, robotics, and engineering. Once they reach Jr. High students can choose to take a dedicated STEM elective and/or a dedicated 3-D Printing elective where they earn a 3-D printing certificate. This allows them to further expand their knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Incarnation also offers STEM related extracurriculars like Girls Who Code, Destination Imagination, and Science Club.
