Art Class
Every student in grades 1-6 have Art once a week for 40 minutes throughout the school year. The art program here at Incarnation is designed to progressively develop skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, and visual literacy. The curriculum aligns with standard art education goals such as creativity, technical skill, cultural appreciation and personal expression. It is my goal for students to be excited to learn new things and enjoy their creative process here at Incarnation!
Students throughout their art curriculum will have the opportunity to work with various art mediums. Students will use materials such as drawing, painting (watercolor, tempera, acrylic), printmaking, collage, and clay. Students will focus on the Elements of Art and Design and how to incorporate them within their artwork. Along with a variety of materials, students will also learn about a variety of artists and their contribution/style in Art history. Students will learn and thrive successfully with others in a studio setting. Buildable skills such as proper care of art materials, clean up, and creative problem solving will all be experience in my class. My hope is that all students feel inspired to create in a safe learning environment that encourages them to try new things and strengthen their confidence in their ability to make Art.
Art Electives for 7th and 8th Grade:
Students in Art Elective will improve their artistic craftmanship, and use a variety of materials, tools, and technology to create conventional and unconventional works of art. We will be working with two-dimensional and three-dimensional projects and apply the art and design principles within the construction of each project. 7th graders will also observe a variety of artworks noticing details, themes, and ideas and be able to identify the processes and decisions made to produce them. They will focus on purpose, aesthetics, social issues and cultural/personal meaning within other’s artwork and their own. We will explore an artist’s intention and message in work and contrast diverse viewpoints about various works of art. Students will be asked to develop and use a criterion to guide reflection and assessment of their personal artwork. This course will concentrate on different mini units of various mediums throughout the semester such as: Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Digital Photography, Fiber Art, and Ceramics/Sculpture.

Master WorksStudents in grades E5 through Fourth participate in our Master Works program. This program introduces our students to a large variety of different artists and art styles. They are encouraged to mimic their varying styles to complete art projects of their own. Artists include Pablo Picaso, Clause Monet, and Fredric Remington. We are very grateful to our PTO for organizing this program with the help of many dedicated volunteers.
